on Agape.

Posted in Commentary, Religion, Spirituality & Ethics on November 4, 2011 by gypsygies

What I have discovered in this life, is that no one wants or respects something that they do not have to work for. Even from their God. That is why people have to count beads, pray facing a certain direction at certain times, spin around in circles wearing white, live according to some special creed, attend church always – the human race cannot simply accept “agape”. You must earn God’s love. You must be a specific person, strive to act according to set social rules, you must work for God’s love. If it is free for everybody, it is not worth anything. It is not respected.

So to be Agape in one’s life, is to be ostracized by the Human Race. It is against human nature to respect what is freely given. To give back, when nothing is required for the love you receive. Even from your God, you must make up stuff to do to be required for the love you receive, in order for you to respect it.

It is a strange and sad race, for this.

On the Devil…

Here is the funny thing that has occurred to me recently about Western Religion:

I have very frequently heard the phrase “Who are YOU to question the Word of GOD??” come out of the mouths of the fundamentalists. They say this phrase most often to keep in line folk who want to argue about hateful passages in the Holy Bible that they wish to enforce upon the populace. `I-don’t-say-this-GOD-says-this and who-are-You-to-argue-with-GOD??’.

But here is the thing: the very invention of the Devil argues with God. It is to say “we do not *like* these things that are happening here and so we must contribute them to something evil”. To do so is to say you understand the Master Plan of God – to put yourself on the same Omnipotent, Omniscient level as the Almighty. To *presume* that you know one thing from another as being in God’s plan argues against God itself. If God is infinitely greater, smarter, than ourselves than only GOD itself makes and molds the Plan. We have no right to attribute certain things to something *outside* of God, as if we were God enough to know the difference. To invent and claim some things are “the Devil’s work” and “demons” and “witches” (etc etc) is to say that this negative event that has occurred, we do not agree with. We do not like. Therefore, argues with the event and presumes to know what God’s intent is, that the event could not have been in God’s plan. But any event that says exactly what we want it to say at the time? Oh, obviously that is in God’s grace. (haha).

The Devil is a child of Man – of Man’s disagreement, argument with, the Divine.

I myself make no judgment or argument either way to this – what I mean to say is I argue with God every day (haha) and figure God doesn’t mind. To be a stupid child would be far more shameful. I say *more* emphasis needs to be put on identifying Positives and Negatives in the Bible and weeding out the Negatives – all those proclaimed by God as “good” and all those not. Negatives are negatives. Leave them behind. Attribute no deity to them, for they are not Godly. They exist in the flawed nature of Man.

Strangely, one of my favorite quotes since childhood is by Samuel Butler:

“An apology for the devil: it must be remembered that we have heard one side of the case. God has written all the books. ”

I think what this quote has always meant to me is `”remember to listen to thine enemy, to understand them.’ or something like that :’)

The Trouble with Heaven…

Posted in Religion, Spirituality & Ethics, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on December 8, 2009 by gypsygies

I can certainly understand the original intention and need for the “Heaven” idea in religion. The peasants are poor, they are hungry, their lives are an exercise in pain, strife and suffering. “Hold on… hold on…. you will be Rewarded.”.

But now I see that “Believe in Me, and you will be Rewarded” is what has come from it. It is no longer an unconditional promise, it’s a sales pitch. All it has done is set up another system of Rewards & Punishments…another form of Capitalism. “Do This – For This.”. “Believe This, and I will give you all that you want.”.

Well I say that Heaven does not matter. While it may once have been a statement of compassion and comfort, I say it has now corrupted the point of the religion.

Heaven does not matter.

What we do in this life, should be for this life…for it’s own reward of having done it, done something Good. To do so for any other reward inevitably corrupts it…turns all things into a system of Greed. “I am doing this, this thing for God, because I want to get into Heaven.”. When men become greedy, they become gullable…morally gullable. So desperate for the outside reward that they will believe the Sun is Night, the Moonlight Sin, and  confuse Black from White. It becomes a race…a race to keep up with what someone else charismatic and confident has told you you must do, be like. “I must have that reward.”.

Take the reward inside, and forget Heaven. Heaven does not matter. Trust that your God is within you when you act in kindness, speak in compassion, fight for those different from you but oppressed – God is within, let that be enough. Forget the capitalism. Leave systems of rewards & punishments out of your everyday mindset. Do what is good to be done because there is good within you. Leave “Heaven” out of the equation.

You should need no greedy reward from a God of Love, for anything. The love is enough. Remember it. Let these priests of “you must do This/be This/believe in This” corrupt you no more.

[Oddly enough, this was written on returning to my hotel room from the Corpus Christi Kelly Clarkson concert and meeting her. I’ve no idea why meeting her prompted me to get off my ass and write down this thing I’ve been *meaning* to write for a long time…but it did. It was thus written on the back of my hotel directions. lol. So a thank you goes out to Ms Kelly Clarkson. ].

Today I say the Universe has no idea why it exists either. God is just as clueless as we are. All of time exists already, future present and past somewhere along the bend of the curved Universe and it simply *Is*. Like the tree that just stands there, and exists. No purpose, no lack thereof, no question, just simply Is. All happens as it does because it has already happened – all the multitude of possibilities in a timeline all played out already somewhere in the bend that simply exists.  And I say God, i.e. “the Universe”, has no idea how that happened either.

And I hate allergies.

There. That’s my random spat out ramble of the day. Be Happy. Or perhaps at least more entertained than you were two minutes ago. Now, move along.

New Rainforrest Found

Posted in Commentary, Religion, Spirituality & Ethics, Uncategorized with tags on June 12, 2009 by gypsygies

Researchers, with the help of Google Earth satellight imagery, have discovered a totally unknown large rainforrest somewhere in Africa.

What strikes me most about this article, is that this rainforrest has existed just fine on it’s own for probably thousands (if not millions) of years. Now that humans have suddenly noticed it? It needs “protection”. That, my friends, speaks loads for the nature of The Human Race, does it not? Everything is safe until we become aware of its existance. Then its in Danger…

And we claim to be a good race… seems odd to me. Can’t help but thinking. m’just saying…

Man & Machine

Posted in Religion, Spirituality & Ethics, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on May 24, 2009 by gypsygies

“Erewhon” was published in 1872, anonymously by Samuel Butler.

I find that fact alone, fascinating.

Think about that for a moment: how long ago was that? Year eighteen hundred and seventy two.

The book is a utopian/dytopian concept book (much like “Utopia” itself) and pervading in it is the fear of machines.

1872. The invasion of the Machines is scary. When an explorer stumbles into this new and strange land of Erewhon, he has on his person a pocket watch…and scandal ensues. How dare he! Well…he doesn’t know…know that machines are banned. Progress in inventive science was voted Stopped at a certain point.

How long have the Amish existed? Progress in inventive science was voted Stopped at a certain point. Machines are scary. They will take over lives!

So pervasive in the book in 1872 is the absolute paranoia of it…the fright of machines taking over, machines ruling, machines destroying Humanity.

This morning I watched “Terminator: Salvation”. Yes, machines taking over, machines ruling, machines destroying Humanity. I found myself suddenly so focused on that old book, Erewhon, and how very, very long and pervasive in our history this fear is. How many scifi stories do we have of it – and how *well* do they do? “The Matrix”, “Transformers”, “Terminator”, “I, Robot”, “Blade Runner”…I’m sure there are more I’m not thinking of. Machines gain sentience and instantly decide the human race is a threat that must be wiped out. Resistance is futile.

How very, very long this fear has been in us. As we progress. It does not fade.

What strikes me as most odd, more improbable, about the entire arguement is one basic fault in it: to decide to wipe out the human race the machines would have to have Desires. Emotions. This, to me, is illogical. Sentience does not automatically equate Desires. All must be Programmed. The machines cannot initially, no matter how smart they are, program in Emotions – because they would have to have the Desire to do so in the first place. Machines will only ever do what they are programmed to do, they have no inherent desires of their own to fulfill. Therefore, the idea that they will desire to slaughter the human race is ludicrous. Paranoid. I believe founded in the same primal paranoid fears that don’t allow many humans to socially evolve – those who are Different must be Bad…must be Against God…must be Feared and Destroyed (or at least lifestyles restrained). All progress halted at an arbitrary point. Must not evolve. Socially, technilogically. God is a tiny frightened little creature to these people who is so very easily threatened.

Machines cannot Desire without being programmed to specific desires. This sort of argument reminds me of my argument against the whole Catholic thing of Inherent Female Guilt because of “Adam and Eve”:  it was Eve who convinced the other to bite the apple and therefore allowed knowledge of evil. But I ask: how could Adam or  Eve have *possibly* bitten the apple if Evil did not already exist? If the ability to defy, to rebel, was not already within? Their version of God is duping us by saying there was no knowledge of evil beforehand… because obviously there was – or she could not have done it! So we were punished for nothing. Nothing justifiable – is Eve a God, then? and was able to Create sin to partake in it? The events could not have occurred if the knowledge of sin wasn’t already there. No – their version of God is lying, is using an excuse to fear and punish women, women are different…and anything different, right from the very start, must be subdued.

Machines create Change. Change must be feared. Anything different, but alive, must be subdued. Made “less than”. We have had this fear from the very start. I am sure 40,000 years ago (random number) someone was terrified of stone tools taking over humanity. De-humanizing.

It seems to me it is these very fears given power…the power of the Conservatives to progress Hate… that has dehumanized society. That threatens making us all into homogenized Robots. Do not think, do not feel, do as you are programmed to do. Work in this square, wear these acceptable clothes, say these acceptable phrases, act in this acceptable manner, or your Individuality creates a Difference which must be subdued…feared. Labeled as offensive. How easily God & Man take offense!

We sell movie after popular movie that’s all about Fearing what we ourselves have already allowed ourselves to become – robots! It is not our creations that will undo our humanity, it is our very own striving for it – to stop Feeling, to stop Empathy, to Subdue. This is the goal of our society, of our every work day environments. Dehumanized homogeneity. These machines we fantasize that will come to eliminate Humanity, are ourselves.

The machines we create have no inherent desires to do so.

We Celebrate Darkness…

Posted in Religion, Spirituality & Ethics, Uncategorized with tags , , , , on April 3, 2009 by gypsygies

Here is something that’s always irritated me: we, as a culture, celebrate all the wrong things. We celebrate injuries. We pause our lives for the Anniversary of MLK’s assassination. People wanted to raise up giant monuments to the tragedy of 9/11. When John F. Kennedy Jr died, his family gave reverance to the Sea (where he died). We attach “The Great” to the names of mass killers.

What is wrong with that?

It’s morbid as all shit, that’s what. Let it go.

We are encouraged to worship darkness – to revere defeat, injuries. That’s what socially acceptable. We’ve got a guy on a rood of tortured death for 2,000 years for crying out loud. And that’s a symbol of Love? It’s sick. Let him down already! And we wonder why our culture is so broken – we pop out endless psycho and socio-paths, we all need drugs to feel happy.

If a gunman walks into a room and threatens office workers, those office workers will worship that moment forever. They will stop the rest of their day, they will be traumatized for life over it because they’re taught that’s socially acceptable. They’ll give interviews about how dramatic it was. They won’t heal. They won’t say “well I didn’t get shot, I’m unharmed” and go on about their day. They choose instead to give endless more power to the wrong-do’ers. They revere them. Allow them to destroy their days.

Every time we stop everything to worship 9/11 we give endless more power to those who struck us that day. Build monuments to their power! I say we heal instead. We look them in the eye and say “No…you do not have this power over me, I will not revere you”. We give great fame to the most vile of creatures among men! Jack the Ripper – still remembered! I say the names of mass murderers should never even be known. They don’t deserve that satisfaction.

Revere MLK’s birthday. Let his assassination pass without mark. I do not worship those that took him. Say a prayer once  for the victims of 9/11 and let it pass. Let the families heal instead of clinging forever to this shrine of death. Revere the Lives of instead of the Deaths of.

Whatever it is that kills me, I hope those who have known me will celebrate my life instead. I hope the day of my death will go unnoticed in time, even to those closest to me. My living days are much more important.
